STUDIO IT IS VIKUR
Studio it is Vikur is a small jewellery studio based in London and Reykjavik.
Each stone is picked and selected on the hills of the mountain Hekla and handmade in our studio in central London. At It is Vikur we focus on sustainability wherever possible. We use recycled silver and 12k gold- fill. when available and have longevity at the heart of everything we do.
It Is Vikur was founded by Agusta Arnardottir. The idea originated during her MA at Material Futures, Central Saint Martins.
WHAT IS VIKUR?
Pumice is a volcanic rock that is highly vesicular, porous and light.
Over the years pressure builds in the volcanoes magma chamber. As centuries pass, gases and water form on top of the magma chamber which create a volcanic reaction - a eruption. As the lava spews from the volcano the gases escape and once the pumice has cooled down it gives a porous rock full of little bubbles. Which is pumice, and in our case Vikur.

MOUNTAIN HEKLA
Hekla volcano is a stratovolcano in South of Iceland and one of the most active and famous volcano worldwide. Due to its activity and volatile eruptions the mountain it is rooted in myth and superstition. During the middle ages it was believed it was the gate to hell.
Hekla last erupted a short eruption in the year 2000 and it erupts on average, once a century.
The rocks used in our products are from a prehistoric eruption from 5000 years ago.
